1999 (3 weeks) Anchorage; Seward and Homer; bear encounter in
Denali National Park; hiking from Camp Denali wilderness lodge; kayaking in Glacier Bay;
dental work in Juneau; indigenous art in Sitka
SANTA CRUZ, CALIFORNIA 2002
Stayed in usual winter quarters - a rented beach apartment with views of
dolphins, sea otters, pelicans and the occasional whale; lived for the
summer in faculty housing on the University of California/Santa Cruz
campus; wrote book manuscript about
our travels & sent it to eight publishers; some interest, but no
acceptance - yet!
SAN
FRANCISCO 2003 (2 months) Joan diagnosed with
active tuberculosis; we cancelled planned eight-month trip to South
America, rented a flat in San Francisco and explored the city for two
months.
